My geek pride took a massive hit when I didn’t attend San Diego Comic-con this year, but at least with the internet around I can sort of feel like I did (it’s much less exciting this way, but it smells better by at least a little). Without a doubt, one of the most epic moments of the con was the reveal of this absolutely massive trailer for AMC’s upcoming series The Walking Dead, and now thanks to the work of one aspiring videographer, we can all bask in its YouTube glory (that is until the suits claw their way to it).

It would appear that M. Night Shyamalan has finally burned through all of the good will he had left in Hollywood, as Universal pictures has decided to eradicate his name from the title of the upcoming thriller Devil, despite the fact it was the first film produced by Shyamalan’s much discussed Night Chronicles development house [...]

UK director Neil Marshall is certainly an unpredictable fellow. He kicked off his career with a picture about soldiers battling werewolves, and then moved on to tackling creepy cave monsters before eventually diving into head-first into the realm of crazy, Carpenter-esque sci-fi. So how does a director flesh out a resume like that? With a Roman war epic, naturally.

If there’s one thing I love about Arabic folklore, it’s all of those hunky adventurers running around in wife-beaters while unloading an endless series of machine gun clips into the resident cyclops. Say what you will about the ancient Arabs and their lack of ability to invent the refrigerator, but those jerks knew how to write a damn good yarn.

Sure, Aussie horror director Brett Anstey is clearly a big fan of Sam Raimi, but who in their right mind isn’t? More importantly, the trailer for Anstey’s upcoming flick, Damned By Dawn, looks like a really fucking good time. I absolutely love it when contemporary horror directors tap into the fun and inventive spirit that carried through Raimi’s early work, and despite how cherished those classic films are, it’s not something the horror community gets enough of these days.

If 2009 wasn’t already looking like a damn good year for sci-fi (and it sure as shit is), Neill Blomkamp’s District 9 would almost certainly give it the edge it needed. While this film is the first feature with Blomkamp in the director’s seat, you may have heard his name start to pop up about four years back when he released the 6-minute sci-fi orgasm that is Alive in Joburg. Needless to say, it wasn’t too surprising when the 29 year old film-maker landed in the lap of the beautifully bearded Peter Jackson, who has been tasked with producer duties on this quickly approaching epic.

It’s hardly a surprise anymore when Steven Soderbergh takes a break from blockbuster film-making to craft an intimate little arthouse picture, but I highly doubt anyone was betting on him ever casting an adult-film star in one of them. And while much hubbub has already been made about seasoned porn pro (that’s putting it nicely) Sasha Grey featuring in The Girlfriend Experience, it’s safe to say the newly released trailer won’t be settling any arguments about her acting abilities (or lack thereof).

It would be fair (sad, but fair) to have completely given up on ever actually seeing Trick ‘r Treat with your own eyes. The film, directed and written by Michael Dougherty, was originally completed back in 2007, and then, just shy of its scheduled October ’07 release date, Warner Bros. Pictures pulled the plug, beginning what would become a long standing tradition of ruthlessly cornholing the poor little film for lord knows what reason.

Sam Rockwell is venturing into outer space once again, this time playing a lunar miner in the upcoming Duncan Jones project titled, aptly enough, Moon. The praise poured in for Jones’ film after its run at The Sundance Festival just a few months back, and it has since become a hot topic for the handful of sci-fi geeks who remain capable of thinking about anything other than the upcoming Star Trek reboot.

Sacha Baron Cohen is the kind of guy you either love or hate, and judging by the new trailer for Bruno, he’s not looking to change that. I don’t need to waste any time telling you what this film is all about, as Cohen is long removed from the days when he was “merely” a budding HBO import, but I will say that it looks like it’s going to be a damn fun time (assuming you thought Borat was a damn fun time). Of course, if you’re just looking for a reminder of how ignorant and bigoted Americans can be, you could keep your $10 and just go stand around your local frat bar.

Before Sam Raimi became stupid rich adapting Spider-Man, he cut his teeth creating low on budget, high on craft horror films. He single-handedly made Bruce Campbell a household name (in all households that do not suck), and was one of the defining voices of the blood & guts scene during the 80′s (a period many consider its prime). This is why it’s a pretty big deal that the man is returning to his cinematic roots with the upcoming witch gone wild feature Drag Me To Hell.

It seems like forever ago that the Where The Wild Things Are live-action adaptation was announced, and considering that it was almost a decade back, it’s not hard to understand why. Many film fans have been following the story of this production pretty closely throughout the years, and when rumors began to circle in early 2008 that Warner Bros. was getting ready to butcher the film, due to poor reception by children at test screenings, things began to look bleak (as if the opinions of half-people should actually amount to anything).
