Mew – King Christian & Mica

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010

This particular Daily Sound entry was inspired by a discussion I had yesterday with my friend Jon about the Danish band Mew. These guys have been firmly at the top of my most loved artists list for nearly a decade now, and to this day two of my favorite songs from them remain the seemingly ancient Am I Wry? No b-sides King Christian and Mica. Since picking which one of them to share proved more difficult than I should probably admit, I am going to make today a two-for-one and go with the pair.

Free Danish Daycare

Thursday, May 13th, 2010

Late last year, Malmo’s Danish Daycare (a.k.a. Daniel Jonsson) released his solo debut titled A Story of Hurt, an album full of electronic pop inspired by the likes of The Cure and Depeche Mode. I was a pretty big fan of the preceding single A Purpose to My Sins, but somehow never got around to buying the full-length — mostly due to the fact that I couldn’t find a store that wished to handle the necessary transaction in English. Well, I guess good things come to those who procrastinate, because now Jonsson has decided to re-release his debut for free to anyone with a working internet connection, and it even comes packed with an extra song.

Let The Right Subtitles In. Please. (Updated)

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

I am no stranger to professing my love for Let The Right On In, the Swedish vampire movie that captured the #1 spot on my favorite films of 2008 list. My catch-all word for it is sublime, because every damn thing about it was just that. What is not sublime is Magnolia Pictures completely botching the U.S release for reasons I won’t even attempt to understand. As fate would have it, I had yet to plunk down for my own personal copy of the movie on Blu-Ray, and I couldn’t be happier about that now that it’s been reported by Icons of Fright (thanks, guys) that the subtitles on the U.S release are completely fubar.
