I've probably wasted more than enough energy explaining my take on film remakes in the past, so I'll just kick this off with the short and sweet version: No remake could ever sully the good name of the original. Some remakes are incredible. Some remakes suck ass. The end. Just where the upcoming Hammer version of Let the Right One In — sadly re-branded as Let Me In — will fall remains unclear, but I'll put myself down as very cautiously optimistic for now, and the newly released set of stills of Chloe Moretz (Hit-Girl) as everyone's favorite little blood-sucker certainly aren't hurting things any.

Way back in the 1960s, some wacky mad scientist discovered that the only way to make soap operas watchable for anyone with a brain operating above the level of sub-human was to throw a shit-ton of vampires into the mix, and thus the TV series Dark Shadows was born. Keep in mind that this was well before the invention of the television itself (archeological data points to that occurring at some point during the summer of 1983), so this was a pretty huge accomplishment all around.

Many of you probably saw the Land of the Lost ad premier during that big baseball game everyone was making a fuss over last Sunday. Well, if you want to see the full-blown trailer, you'll have to hustle your ass on over to the Subway Fresh Buzz homepage (seriously, who gets paid to come up with this stuff?), where it's nestled comfortably next to a suite of terrible animating flash ads for various sandwich selling promotions that I've already forgotten about. I don't know what marketing genius thought this little number up, but I can tell you right now that it is a rather epic failure.

When they first announced the A-Team remake ages ago, it sounded like just about as promising an idea as revisiting The Dukes of Hazard (which they actually managed to make worse), or walking in front of a moving bus. After all, it's not easy to find actors with the kind of dramatic range it takes to act like you're deathly afraid of flying, while simultaneously wearing excessive amounts of gold jewelry, and lord knows the actual Mr. T is far too old (not to mention busy ridding the world of pesky trees) to have any part of it.

The work of crazed* Japanese director Takashi Miike certainly isn't for everyone, but no one can accuse the man of being a one-trick pony. Despite the fact he's notorious for creating the kind of extreme, blood-soaked yarns that get gorehounds like me salivating, he also makes time for strangely moving dramas (The Bird People In China) and completely bonkers family films (Zebraman). To the latter camp soon comes Yatterman, a live-action remake of a 1970's anime series very few of us Yanks have actually ever seen.

While teenage boys have yet to sour on the torture-porn of the Saw franchise, box-office numbers indicate its appeal is finally starting to fade, even for all those walking hormones. And to think, it only took five crappy films to get there! So what is Hollywood to do now? Well, if you're Universal Studios, you apparently resurrect Wes Craven's infamous Last House on the Left, a genre staple that is primarily remembered for its extended rape scene and genital mutilation. Yup, that'll get some prepubescent attention.
