If you’ve ever punished yourself with slogging through the entirety of my best-of lists, then you may recall reading about Barcelona post-punk act CatPeople and their 2008 album What’s the Time Mr. Wolf?. Apparently, despite the shameful lack of global press, that album sold well enough to merit a re-release earlier this year, and it comes packaged with a brand new bonus disc titled Reel & Wolf EP. This EP features four new recordings, with the band selecting two songs from both of their previous albums to rework from top to bottom, mostly turning them on their heads as completely acoustic renditions.
For those of you unfamiliar with CatPeople, imagine a swooning Spanish Editors who aren’t afraid to inject a bit of bounce into their dour rock-outs and you’ll definitely be on the right track. They also have exotic accents and sing openly about sex, which leads me to believe they spend a lot of their spare time stealing other people’s girlfriends. Never the less, they’re full of kick ass, and now they’ve given you more reason than ever to hunt down their sophomore album. I’m hoping to seal the deal by including not just the Reel & Wolf EP version of Goodbye Angel, but also the original cut from What’s the Time Mr. Wolf?.
