Trouble is Frankenstein’s Business

Needs more capeTransforming Frankenstein’s monster into a tough-as-bolts (sorry, I couldn’t help myself), Philip Marlowe-esque P.I. is what scientists refer to as a damn good idea. In fact, it’s a stroke of brilliance I would be happy to claim as my own, but the credit all goes to Kevin Grievoux, who also happens to be the guy who created the Underworld series. Grievoux’s concept is strong enough even at its core (it’d be fair to come up with “Frankenstein solves mysteries” and then call it a day), but he’s not just stopping with that one big lug, he’s throwing a whole mess of classic monsters into the noir mix, including the one and only Count Dracula (as a crime king-pin, no less). Yup, that’s fucking awesome stuff indeed. And you can check out the results of this crazy experiment in the upcoming Darkstorm comic series I, Frankenstein.

But the I, Frankenstein story doesn’t end there. Even though the books haven’t even hit the stands yet, the rights have already been nabbed for a film adaptation, which is set to be helmed by Patrick Tatopulous. Tatopolous is a big name in the FX industry, in addition to having directed the third Underworld film (which wasn’t amazing, but was entertaining enough for fans of the series). There’s also a lot of buzz spreading throughout the internet tubes over the fact that Ryan Rotten is attached as a co-developer/associate producer. You might not necessarily be familiar with the name, but Mr. Rotten has been dishing about horror films on the web for about as long as I can remember (which honestly isn’t really that long, due to all that misspent youth), and he’s a man who knows his shit when it comes to a bit of the ol’ blood and guts. To have someone with such an encyclopedic knowledge of the genre there to help things along bodes really well for I, Frankenstein‘s future.

That’s it for now, but being I count horror and film noir as two of my favorite genres, you can count on hearing more about this movie mash-up as soon as the information is made available.
