The HorsemanFor a while now, Australia has been quietly making some of the best genre pictures going (from the bonkers zombie film Undead, to the disturbing pseudo-slasher Wolf Creek), and the land down under is stepping up to the plate once again with the extremely brutal revenge thriller The Horseman (not to be confused with the upcoming Dennis Quaid vehicle The Horsemen).

This marks the first feature film from writer/director Steven Kastrissios, and it appears to be the perfect movie for people who thought Taken had too much karate chopping, and not enough gruesome torture and crowbars to the face. The story essentially follows one father out to get a bit of payback on a group of men who did some very big wrongs to his young daughter, and he does so in the least family-friendly way imaginable (I don’t think any angry phone calls are on his to-do list). And that reminds me, this trailer is a wee bit NSFW, so make sure no one is looking.

No US release date for The Horseman just yet, but it’s making its debut at SXSW in March. Lucky Texans!
