While Machete is getting positively drowned in a sea of pre-release hype, it’s not the only fake grindhouse trailer that’s currently being made into a full-length film. Prior to the release of the original double-feature, Robert Rodriguez held a contest asking fans to make their own little trainwreck of a trailer, and Jason Eisener’s Hobo With a Shotgun snatched up the crown. While few of us actually got to see Jason’s work in theaters, there’s just no stopping the twin barrels of hobo justice once they get going, and soon this insanely ridiculous bit of hobosploitation will be let loose upon the entire world as an actual feature. And if that’s not reason enough to be jealous of this guy, then chew on this: He actually got 80′s action legend Rutger Hauer to star as his angry hobo. Yes, the same Rutger Hauer who starred in fucking Blade Runner! Apparently miracles do happen.
Filming is just getting underway up in the great white north, so we’re not getting a “real” trailer just yet, but I think this recently released teaser bodes well for things to come. If they can manage to make the entire film this funny and violent, then Machete is just going to need to deal with being a little bit less of an attention whore.
